Before on remote learning
the impact of motivation on remote learners learning experience and identifying quality factors in online courses was a problem. By providing a platform for assessment and analysis, we aimed to mitigate negative consequences.
Diving into data
Me and my teammates have done our desk reseach to learn more and we conducted a survey to know our user closer.

Data was sampled from 20 people

Affinity Map
I also conducted an interview and created an affinity map with user painpoints.
“Another thing that is hard about online learning is that it’s harder to bond with other people. It’s harder to get to know other people. Sometimes in the breakout room, no one talks at all, everyone is quiet, and it is so awkward because you waited and thought that someone was going to talk, but no one did.” -Quote from a user's survey
The making of HUB
From the data we collected, I created an ideal user flow as how I imagined our app to pan out and what our desired user experience would entail. It later developed into an experience map, which captured the user’s journey and emotional results with each touchpoint they perform within the app.
From here I could decide what actions and features were crucial and beneficial, and designed a sitemap around these conclusions. We wanted to create a seamless experience for our target users by emphasizing on simplicity but keeping a balance between customization of mentor meeting versus courses, as both were appreciated.
Sketches of a draft mobile app and early mockups
User testing prototype
The app’s initial design involved a meeting with experts, courses, peers, alumnis and podcasts. We conducted our wire frames with five testers, and by carefully considering their comments and feedback, we made valuable adjustments.
We’ve gathered some of the feedback from usability tests and used them to improve our app. Here some of the comments:
“When I log in, why am I not seeing content that matches my interests?”
“Somewhere here there can be a button for ‘schedule a 1 to 1 meeting’.”
“Confused about whether the upcoming meetings are mine or related meetings to discover?”
I redesigned the flow with this change in mind to make sure setting meets were a lot faster to access. I started pulling user interface inspiration from popular mentoring apps to study how they guide users through complicated journeys.
Final Outcome
Throughout this project, I have undertaken a comprehensive range of tasks, leveraging teamwork and collaboration to achieve our objectives. Through interviews with remote learners, I gained firsthand perspectives on their experiences and preferences. By actively participating in all these tasks, I contributed to the successful development of the project.
As with any project, there is always much to be developed and improved with HUB. Can we use other ways to meet and setting time with experts? What if meetings were introduced through the partnership of businesses and events? These are just some of the questions I'd like to expand on as I continue to work on this project. But for now, feel free to check out the current state of the app from below.
